Neeli has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE).
These standards are published by XYRAVON STUDIOS LLP, the developer and operator of the Neeli application, and apply globally to everyone who uses Neeli, in every country where it is available. They are maintained in accordance with Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy, Apple's App Review Guidelines, and Indian law including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Prohibited absolutely
The following are prohibited on Neeli without exception, and result in immediate permanent removal:
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor, in any format, whether real, animated, edited or generated.
- Sexualisation of a minor — describing, discussing or portraying a person under 18 in a sexualised manner, including in text or speech.
- Grooming — building a relationship with a minor, or with someone believed to be a minor, in order to sexually exploit or abuse them.
- Sextortion — threatening to release intimate content in order to coerce a minor.
- Solicitation — asking a minor for sexual content, sending sexual content to a minor, or arranging to meet a minor for a sexual purpose.
- Minor self-generated sexual content — soliciting, encouraging, receiving or distributing it.
- Trafficking — any facilitation of the trafficking or sexual exploitation of a minor.
- Any use of Neeli by a person under 18, and any facilitation of such use.
Age requirement
Neeli is strictly for adults aged 18 years and over. There is no version of Neeli for children and no supervised or teen mode.
How we enforce this:
- Neutral age screen. At sign-up, we ask for a date of birth on a neutral screen — one that does not reveal the required age before the answer is given — and block accounts that do not meet the 18+ threshold.
- Listener verification. People applying to be listeners must additionally submit a government identity document and a selfie. Date of birth is verified against the document before any listener can take a call or be paid.
- Store-level age rating. Neeli carries a mature age rating on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and we answer content-rating questionnaires honestly about the mature themes the service involves.
- Ongoing signals. If a report, a profile, or the conduct of an account suggests the user is under 18, we treat that as actual knowledge and act on it.
What we do when we find a minor
- Terminate the account immediately.
- Delete the personal data associated with it, except anything we must preserve as evidence.
- Preserve evidence where an offence may have been committed, and hand it to the appropriate authority.
- Ban the device and email to prevent immediate re-registration.
- Notify the relevant authorities where required.
Detection and response
- In-app reporting on every call. Any user or listener can report a call while it is in progress or after it ends, choosing a specific reason and adding a description. Reports involving a suspected minor or CSAE are routed to a priority queue.
- Reporting by email. Anyone, including people who do not use Neeli, can report a child safety concern to contact@neeliapp.com.
- Human review. Every child-safety report is reviewed by a trained person, not only by an automated filter.
- Immediate action on actual knowledge. On becoming aware of prohibited content or conduct, we remove it and terminate the accounts involved without waiting for the outcome of any further process.
- Evidence preservation. We preserve the relevant records — account details, metadata, reports and any uploaded media — for handover to law enforcement, even where the account has otherwise been deleted.
- Repeat-access prevention. Terminated accounts are recorded against device and email identifiers so that the same person cannot immediately return.
Reporting to authorities
We report confirmed child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to Indian law enforcement.
We comply with:
- the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), including sections 19 to 21, under which failure to report knowledge of an offence against a child is itself an offence in India;
- section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which criminalises publishing or transmitting material depicting children in sexually explicit acts;
- the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, including the requirement to remove such content within 24 hours of a valid complaint.
We respond to lawful requests for information from courts, police and regulators with jurisdiction.
In-app reporting mechanism
Neeli provides a reporting mechanism inside the app:
- During a call: the report control is available on the in-call screen.
- After a call: the call appears in your history with a report option.
- Anywhere else: Profile → More → Report a problem.
Reports include a reason and a free-text description. Suspected-minor and CSAE reports are prioritised over all other categories.
Point of contact for child safety
The named individual responsible for Neeli's CSAM prevention practices and compliance with these standards, and who is available to speak to them, is:
- Name: Aman
- Email: contact@neeliapp.com
- App: Neeli
- Developer: XYRAVON STUDIOS LLP
- Address: 1st Floor, SP Castle, Farook College Road, Ramanattukara, Feroke, Kozhikode, Kerala 673633, India
This address is monitored for child-safety escalations from users, platforms, regulators and law enforcement. Please do not use it for general support, which would slow down the reports that need it.
Training and governance
- Listener onboarding includes child-safety obligations: the 18+ requirement, what grooming and sexualisation of a minor look like, the absolute prohibition, and the duty to end and report any call that raises a concern.
- Moderation staff are trained on recognising and escalating CSAE reports and on handling such material lawfully.
- These standards are reviewed at least annually, and immediately after any incident or change in applicable law or platform policy.
- We self-certify compliance with Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy in Play Console, and keep the certification current.
